This month’s Photo Challenge theme actually came to us by e-mail from reader Kim Wilson… Her idea was to have a challenge tilted “In Your Backyard” where your challenge is to get a saleable photograph within the confines of your own backyard. What does it mean to take a saleable photograph? Saleable photos are well composed, properly exposed, and your subject is in sharp focus. You can take pictures on a white background like the ones I showed you last week from my backyard… Or headshots… Weather shots… Close-ups… Or textures… They can be objects in your backyard… Or people… Pictures you think might have a high stock value (that is, will sell well to an online stock photo agency)… Or those you think will sell well as fine art… No matter your choice, however, they MUST be taken in your backyard to be considered for this month’s challenge. And you can only submit your best ONE. So choose carefully. Submissions for July’s Challenge are due by 8:00 a.m. Eastern Time on Monday, July 25. You can submit your photos by clicking on the “Enter to Win” tab on our website. Photos need to be between 30 and 50 KB in size, or between 300 and 500 pixels in width/height. In Lightroom, you can plug in these size requirements when you export your photo. If you’re using a photo-editing software other than Lightroom, simply go to Google and type in “how to resize a photo in <fill in the name of your program>” for details. This month’s first-place winner will get a $30 gift certificate to the AWAI E-Bookstore, and the first-, second-, and third-place winners will all be entered into the Hall of Fame to compete for this year’s annual $2,000 Grand Prize. Good luck! [Editor’s Note: Learn more about how you can turn your pictures into cash in our free online newsletter The Right Way to Travel.
