“Using Photoshop for your photos is like cutting butter with a chainsaw instead of a butter knife.” One of our instructors, Daniel Nahabedian, told us this while we were in Thailand, and the metaphor really stuck with me… because it’s SO true. Yes, all saleable photos need to be edited. But unfortunately, the first thing people think of when they want to edit or process their photos is Photoshop (because it’s so well-known). They ask, “Do I need Photoshop if I have Lightroom?” And the answer is: No. You don’t need to shell out a huge amount of money to successfully turn your photos into profitable images. Photoshop is a chainsaw, not a butter knife. It’s meant for graphic designers, not photographers simply looking to brighten their photos or slightly decrease a shadow here and there. To enhance your photos and add that extra pop (with just a few clicks), all you need is a basic processing program like Adobe Lightroom. Below is a quick video our resident photographer Bonnie Caton made for you about editing your images. Watch it and you’ll quickly see that you don’t need the complexity of Photoshop. In fact, all you need are a few simple sliders you can pull from left to right to adjust the light and colors in your pictures. A few weeks ago, I polled our readers for the single question they would ask one of our experts given the chance. The number of questions we got about Photoshop and processing images blew me away. Most people want to avoid editing their images all together. And some simply want to avoid Photoshop because it’s so expensive and hard to use. That’s why I asked Bonnie to create this video for you this week… The truth is, every photo needs to be processed before it’s sold. It’s not hard. It takes just a few minutes.
