You really get to know a person when you spend hours and hours hiking with them on dangerous terrain.

My new photographer friend Nigel, for example, never complains when he’s hiking with a heavy backpack full of camera gear. But put him in a chair for more than 30 minutes and he’s in pain.

If you haven’t read his story yet, go here. It starts the moment his heart stopped in Yosemite National Park while he was driving along a winding road. He has a pacemaker now to keep his heart in check. And he can’t sit down for any long length of time, otherwise he’s in pain.

That’s where photography comes in.

Nigel’s actually quite smart. With a PhD in astrophysics, he wrote his dissertation on thin films—nanotechnology applied to spacecraft solar panels to make them transmit more light.

Yeah. I had to send him that paragraph just to say it all correctly.

But he’s also dyslexic, so just like everyone who grows up with a learning disability, he had to work extra hard to get through school and into a PhD program, which gave him a stronger drive than others.

And it made learning photography a bit of a challenge—apertures, shutter speeds, color temperature of light—these things are hard to understand, even without a disability.

When you ask him about it, though, he says it’s likely the reason he’s attracted to photography. Growing up with dyslexia, he always preferred books with pictures and pictures over words because reading was such a challenge.

Today, photography is how he makes a living. It’s what keeps him out of chairs. And it’s what gave him his life back after his accident forced him to take stock of his choices.

He’s young. And while he’s always enjoyed photography as a hobby, he’s fairly new to it as an income source. And that’s why I think his story is so special.

He didn’t start with 10 years in the business. He didn’t get his feet wet with weddings or another style of photography. He literally started down this income path just 18 months ago and already he’s found methods that work to support him full-time. Methods I didn’t even know existed before we met.

So that’s what I’m sharing with you today.

We built this trip to the amazing Faroe Islands, including an introduction to Nigel. He’s a fantastic instructor. And he’s someone cool doing something pretty fantastic with his camera to make a living.

Follow Nigel on-screen to one of the most beautiful places on the planet. It’ll up your skill. Inspire you to get your camera out. Show you a far-off place you may or may not ever get to go. And show you another way to sell photos you may never have considered.

Join us there (from home, through your computer) and you’ll not only see and experience one of the world’s most beautiful destinations… but Nigel will show you how to add magic to your images and sell them.
